Crosfields progress to the next round
Crosfields 3-1 Seneley & Garswood
Crosfields booked their place in the next round of the cup competition with a 3-1 home win over Seneley & Garswood.
A slow start to the game failed to create any worthwhile chances until a free kick was won on the edge of the Seneley & Garswood area. Captain Lewis Brocklehurst stepped up to drive an unstoppable shot high into the roof of the net to give Crosfields a 1-0 advantage, despite a gallant attempt by the visitors keeper.
A number of further efforts were created, with Sean Farrell getting in two notable efforts from the edge of the area that were comfortably saved. Brocklehurst saw another effort from the edge of the area well saved by the Seneley keeper, following a corner taken from Jacob Dimeloe. Crosfields were finding it difficult to get behind the home defence, despite the Crosfields midfield of Brocklehurst and Willcox dominating play.
The visitors grabbed an unlikely equaliser on the stroke of half time with their first real attack of the game, when a shot from the byline found its way into the far bottom corner of the goal.
Crosfields made three substitutions at the break with Dylan Hunt, Harry Thatcher and Sam Fellows introduced, who all neatly combined to create an opening for Hunt, whose shot came back off the Seneley post.
Crosfields almost regained the lead moments later, when Fellows ran through on goal, only to see his strike brilliantly tipped around the post by the impressive Seneley keeper. The resultant corner led to another shot against the post, this time from Fellows. With Crosfields now camped in their opponents half, the inevitable goal soon followed. Another Hunt corner was delivered to the back post, where Thatcher was well placed to convert his 15th goal of the season. Hunt himself came close to adding a further goal, but again was denied by the goalkeeper.
The game was made safe when Harry Thatcher passed inside to Fellows, who coolly beat the last defender before rounding the Seneley keeper and passing the ball into the empty net. Fellows was denied another effort on goal when he was brought down on the edge of the area when clean through. Fellows picked himself up to send a good effort just inches over the Seneley crossbar, before the referee signalled the end of the game.
Team 1st half: Ryan Fance, Alex Crawley, Harry Willcox, Jacob Gallop, Lewis Brocklehurst, Sean Farrell, Jacob Dimeloe
